Roger Albert Asplin, 77, of Slayton, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Our House Hospice Home, Slayton.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Asplin, Slayton; four children, Nancy (Greg) Rino, Casper, Wyo., Cindy (Keith) Larson, Richfield, Sally (Rick) Remington, San Clemente, Calif., and Brent (Sue) Asplin, Eagan; one sister, Virginia (Edwin) Anderson, Dassel; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Steelesville Cemetery, Dassel.
Roger was born the son of Albert & Viola Johnson Asplin in Dassel, MN. He grew up in Dassel and graduated from Dassel High School in 1951. Roger then attended the University of MN.
On September 21, 1956 he and Jean Anderson were married in Minneapolis, MN. Following their marriage they made their home in St. Paul, MN for one year while Roger finished Veterinary School graduating in 1957. They then moved to Aberdeen, SD where Roger worked for the Federal Government testing cattle. In 1958 they moved to Slayon, MN and Roger joined the Slayton Veterinary Clinic where he worked until his retirement. In retirement he continued to be active in veterinary medicine by helping out at Brockway-Brown Veterinary Clinic in Tracy, MN. On May 18, 2011 Roger moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton, MN. Roger was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. He served as Sunday school teacher, confirmation teacher, and Bible study leader. He also was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and the MN Veterinary Medical Association. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping throughout Minnesota, South Dakota, and Canada, and Africa. He and Jean also enjoyed dancing.
