Torey James Miller obituary, 3/30/06

March 30, 2006

Torey James Miller, age 43, of Dassel, died Thursday, March 30, 2006 at home.

Funeral services are today, April 3 at 2 p.m.at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato with the Rev. Steve Thorson officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Anderson, organist; and Jeff Lindquist, Ron Beckman, and Gordy Nelson. Interment will be at Steelsville Cemetery, Collinwood Township.

Casket bearers are Jess Anderson, Marty Boerboom, Jim Cappelleri, Mark Forsman, Ryan Nelson, and Todd Terning. Honorary bearers are Holton Miller, Gannon Miller, Peyton Miller, Dan Miller, and Cory Gilmer.

Torey was born Feb. 14, 1963 in Litchfield. He was raised in Dassel, and graduated from Dassel-Cokato High School in 1981.

He married Cindy Rokala in July of 1990. They were blessed with three wonderful children. Holton, an avid hockey player, will be 8 in May. Gannon will be 5 in July and loves trains. Peyton will be 3 in July and loves Cindrella. The Miller household is always buzzing with activity.

Torey farmed together with his business partner and father, Jim, for over 25 years. They raised hogs, and sold certified seed, corn, soybeans and wheat. He was a member of the Minnesota Crop Improvement for 25 years.
A very active member/treasurer of the Dassel-Cokato Lions Club for 10 years, Torey was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated humanitarian services by the Lions Club International Foundation. This is the highest honor awarded by the Lions, and only a few are distributed.

Torey was a board member and chairman of the Dassel Township Board for over four years.
He loved entertaining, music, sports, boating, traveling, being with Cindy and the kids, and doing things as a family.

Torey was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma Aug. 9, 2005. He was always very positive during his battle with cancer, and never focused on the dreadful day when it would take over his body. He remained strong through the end, and was extremely touched by the outpouring of love and support in all the notes and letters he received, visitors that stopped over, meals that were made and brought to the house, guestbook entries on his website, as well as other generous acts of kindness.

He died peacefully, with Cindy, his parents, Jim and Sharon, and his father-in-law, Carl, by his side.
Torey is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; children, Holton, Gannon, and Peyton; parents, Jim and Sharon; brother, Dan; two nieces, Shelby and Gina; father-in-law and mother in law, Carl and Bev Rokala, all of Dassel; brother-in-law and and sister-in-law Jim and Stephanie Cappelleri; and two nephews, Tony and Vinny, of Delano.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and an aunt.

Arrangements are being handled by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
