Marilyn Lena (Nordmann) Schroeder, the daughter of Leonard and Bernadine Rose (Garding) Nordmann, was born on August 27, 1952, at the Saint Cloud Hospital in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Marilyn grew up in Richmond, Minnesota, where she was baptized and later received first communion at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Marilyn was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church at the time of her death. Marilyn graduated from Rocori High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota.
On June 26, 1971, Marilyn was united in marriage to Lawrence “Larry” Schroeder at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Together they made their home in the Dassel area where she was employed as a waitress and hostess at Hojies Grill and Smokehouse and worked at Cenex in Cokato for many years, serving up the best broasted chicken.
Marilyn loved the holidays, especially decorating for Christmas. She was a great cook who could often be found making sheet cakes, apple crisp, pumpkin pies, apple sauce, jelly, pickles, banana bars and banana bread. Food was her language of love. She collected light houses, angels, and loved watching the birds and butterflies enjoying her flower garden. Music was a joy to Marilyn, as she enjoyed singing the old hymns and listening to music while showing off her dance moves, which was not a surprise, as she loved watching Dancing with the Stars. Her presence was always known by her contagious laughter filling the room. A deck of cards was always around waiting to be dealt, or a board game ready to be played. A book, or two, or three, could be found folded open ready for the next chapter to be read.
She cherished her family with her whole heart and especially loved her grandchildren and will be deeply missed by those who held her close to their heart. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Schroeder of Dassel, children; Shanna Fearer (Steven Thompson) of Cottage Grove, Laura (Timothy) Arens of Hutchinson, Jay (Sarah) Schroeder of Zumbrota, Matthew (Stacey) Schroeder of Litchfield, and Suzanne Schroeder of Dassel, seven grandchildren; Jasmine Rognrud, Travis Rognrud, Chelsea Paggen, Breanna Schroeder, Vivienne Schroeder, Ashauntai Smith, and Trayten Johnson, three great grandchildren; Easton Paggen, Olivia Paggen, and Colton Paggen, her mother, Bernadine Nordmann of Richmond, siblings; Elaine (Bruce) Kennedy of Otter Tail, Nick Nordmann of Eden Valley, Pat (Jim) Karnik of Darwin, Chuck (Mary) Nordmann of Richmond, Bernice (John) Bursch of Roseville , JR (Laura) Nordmann of Watkins, Jeff (Linda) Nordmann of Olympia, WA, and her brother-in-law, Bob Mackedanz of Paynesville.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Nordmann, brother, Michael Nordmann, and sister, MaryKay Mackedanz.
