Notes for John August Johnson
Birth date is taken from the Stockholm Lutheran Church membership records.
(Date of marriage should be 1880, according to the 1900 Census and MOMS.org, not 1899 as written in the obituary.)

Dassel Dispatch 7-6-1939
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday of last week from the home and the First Lutheran Church of Dassel for August Johnson, who had passed away at his home here Monday, June 26th. Rev. F. Wm. Hanson, pastor of the church, officiated and also sang a solo at the house. Mrs. C J. Peterson and C. W. Johnson rendered a duet and each sang a solo. Interment was made in the Steelesville Cemetery.

John August Johnson was born in Herljunga, Västergötland, Sweden, January 13, 1858 and came to America in 1861 and settled with his parents in Carver County. Later they moved to Collinwood township where he resided until 18 years ago when he moved to Dassel village.

In the year 1899 he was united in marriage with Charlotte Almquist, who together with five children mourn his death. The children are Mrs. Arne Bang of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, Mrs. George Witcher and Mrs. George Eide of Minneapolis, and Mrs. David Larson and Arthur Johnson of Dassel. Fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Miss Mathilda Johnson of Dassel, also mourn his death. One daughter, Mrs. J. J. Dietel, died last year; three other children have also preceded him in death.

Mr. Johnson was raised in the Lutheran faith and joined the First Lutheran Church in 1896, continuing his membership there until his death. While a resident of Collinwood township he served on the township board for many years and after moving to Dassel held the position of Mayor for four years, in which capacity he served faithfully and well.

His death will be mourned by a host of friends who sympathize with the bereaved wife, daughters and son.
