August W. Bergquist, lifetime resident of the Dassel community, passed away at the Litchfield Hospital, Wednesday, July 4th, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, July 7th, from the First Lutheran Church of Dassel, with the Rev. J. Henry Bergren of Litchfield and Mr. Hilbert Johnson, student pastor at the local church, officiating. Miss Selma Erickson of Minneapolis sang, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye” and "Han Skas öpna Perla Porten," and C. W. Johnson sang, "Some Day We'll Understand."

Interment was made in the Steelesville cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur W. Johnson, Gustaf Johnson. Harris Amundson, Ernest Broberg, Emil Nelson and Joe Danielson.

August William Bergquist was born in Collinwood Township, south of Dassel, on February 25, 1885, the son of Gustaf and Louisa Bergquist. He had lived in this community his entire life and with the exception of three years when he was employed at the Dassel Flour Mill, had farmed south of town.

He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church of Dassel when a child and had been a faithful member there all his life. He served on the board of trustees of the church for a number of years. He had also served a number of years on the school board.

He became ill and was taken to the Litchfield Hospital on Sunday, July 1st, passing away there July 4th, at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 9 days.

On September 21, 1910 he was married to Mary Erickson, who survives to mourn his death, together with the following children: Evelyn and Willard of Minneapolis, Mrs. Richard Baldwin (Louise) of Litchfield, and Kenneth at home.

Also surviving are two brothers, Walter and Frans Bergquist of Dassel; and three grandchildren, Ronald, Harold and Barbara Bergquist of Minneapolis, besides many other relatives and a host of friends. One grandson, Billy Baldwin, passed away on March 16, 1951.

Among the: many from a distance who attended the funeral services here Saturday were friends and relatives from Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Maple Plain, Buffalo, Cokato, Kimball, South Haven, Darwin, Litchfield, Grove City, Atwater, Willmar, Hutchinson and Silver Lake.
