Obituary Dassel Dispatch 2-20-1919
After a short illness of influenza and pneumonia, the death of Mrs. August Nyberg occurred at the old family home in Collinwood on Feb. 11th, at the age of 70 years. All of the children were at her bedside when the end came.
Deceased was born in Sweden on March 25, 1849, and came to this country with her parents when she was about 19 years of age. She was married about four years later, and for a short time made her home in Duluth. Later she and her husband came to Meeker County and purchased the farm about four miles south of town, where they have made their home ever since. More than forty years have the family lived on the old place and taken an active and most energetic part in the upbuilding and improvement of the community. There are six children living, as follows: Carl, Amanda Larson, Nellie Redmir, Oscar, Jennie and Otto. There are seven grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Gustav Bergquist, and a brother, Oscar Peterson.
Deceased was an active member of the Lutheran church, and the services were held at the local church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. I. Bergstrand, who spoke in Swedish. Rev. C. O. Bergquist, a nephew of the deceased, spoke in English.
Deceased was a lady who has been very active all of her life and bore the trials and vicissitudes of early pioneer days with cheerfulness and patience. Those who knew her best loved her most and she enjoyed the friendship of a large circle of friends.
Those from away who were present at the funeral were John Peterson of Atwater, Mrs. Frans Larson and Mrs. Frank Anderson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Emil Nyberg and daughter of St. Paul.
The sympathy of the community is extended thru The Dispatch to the bereaved children.
She was laid to rest in the family plot in the Steelesville Cemetery. Blessed be her memory.
