Peter Magnus Karlson, age 79, passed away February 4, 1896, at Collinwood Township, Meeker County, Minnesota. He was born May 16, 1816, in Jönköping, Bäckseda, Sweden, to Karl Marcus Magnisson (b.1794) and Helena Petersdotter (b.1795). Peter was the elder brother to Karl Johan (b.1820).

At age 19, Peter married Catharina "Kari" Magnidotter, age 17, daughter of Magnus Persson & Greta Håkansdotter, January 1, 1836 in Jönköping, Södra Solberga. In 1848 they moved from Granshult to Elmedahl with their three children. Together they raised six children.

Peter and Kari's firstborn son, Carl Magnus was born June 4, 1838 in Sweden. At age 10, he was able to read and was reciting the catechism. He died 14 May 1859 (age 20) in Elmedahl of chills, and was buried there May 22, 1859.

At ages 56 and 55, Peter and Kari emigrated to America in June-July of 1872 aboard the steamer SS City of London from Liverpool, landing at Ellis Island, NY. Accompanying them was their daughter Anna Louisa Bergquist and four of her children. Anna's husband John Bergquist emigrated a year earlier. They all settled at Duluth where they remained for three years. The family came to Dassel in 1878 and the family has lived here since that time in Collinwood Township.

Peter and Kari were received as members of Steelesville Lutheran Church, joining many other family members there.

Preceding him in death were his wife Kari, age 68 in 1886; his parents Carl in 1840 and Helena in 1873 in Sweden; a daughter in law, Annie Mathilda (Boo) Peterson in 1885; and eight grandchildren. Surviving Peter are his children and their spouses, Anna Louisa (Mrs. John Bergquist); Frans Johan "Pelle" (Carolina Jönsdotter); Albertina (August L. Nyberg); Emma Carolina (Henry W. Adlerbjelke); and Oscar (widowed); and 33 grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.
