Aged Resident is Laid to His Rest
Axel E. Bergquist Had Passed Away in Minneapolis On Wednesday, May 10th
Axel Edward Bergquist was born December 24, 1861 in Åsheda Krone, Sweden. He came with his parents to America at the age of ten years, in the year 1871, and settled in Duluth Minnesota. The family moved to Dassel in 1875 and on January 9, 1886, Mr. Bergquist was united in marriage to Hulda Mathilda Swanson.
On May 12, 1876 Mr. Bergquist was confirmed at the Stockholm Lutheran Church and later that same year he joined the Lutheran Church in Dassel and had been a member of the local church ever since.
Mr. Bergquist retired from active farming in 1939 and had since made his home with his children. He had resided with his sons in Minneapolis the past few years. He passed away Wednesday, May 10, in Minneapolis from a heart ailment and infirmities of old age, being at the time of his death, 82 years, 4 months and 16 days old.
Left to mourn his passing are nine children, namely: Mrs. Carl Olerud (Anna) of Kathryn, North Dakota, Mrs. Fred Lindquist (Emma) of Gowrie, Iowa, John, Mrs. Ada Sand, Arthur and Mrs. Harry Westrom (Selma) of Minneapolis, Mrs. Clarie McCleary (Alice) of Compton, California, Mrs. Arnold Lundahl (Esther) of Dassel, and Mrs. Elmer Anders (Ruth) of Litchfield. Four brothers, John S. Bergquist, Frans Bergquist, Walter Bergquist and August Bergquist, all of the Dassel community, also survive, besides 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His wife passed away on June 13, 1915. One son, Leonard; one sister, Mrs Jennie Owsley; one brother Rev. Carl Bergquist, also have preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted here on Monday, May 15th, from the Holm Funeral Chapel at 1:30 and from the First Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, Rev. F. Wm. Hanson officiated and special music was furnished by Mrs. Verner Anderson, C. W. Johnson, and Rev. Hanson. Pallbearers were Anton Holm, Albert Danielson, John Latt, Arthur Dahlman, Albin Dahlman and George Lundin. Interment was made in the Steelesville Cemetery.
Mr. Bergquist had made a large number of friends during his long residence in this community who join in extending sympathies to the family in their bereavement.
