Clarence Bergquist, 81, of Dassel died on March 4, 1997.
Funeral services were March 7, 1997 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with Rev. Scott Geister-Jones officiating. Soloist was Steve Lien who sang "How Great Thou Art."
Congregational hymns included "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Beautiful Savior." Florine Osness was organist. Pallbearers were Alan Guthrie, Kenneth Bergquist, Charles Berg, Steve Lien, Lowell Danielson, and Donald Danielson. Spring interment will be in the Steelesville Cemetery in Dassel.
Clarence Emanuel Bergquist was born July 18, 1915 in Collinwood Township, Dassel, Minnesota. He was the son of Walter and Anna (Nordstrom) Bergquist.
Clarence received his education at the Steelesville School in Collinwood Township. On June 20, 1943 he was united in marriage to Martha Prieve at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. They resided on the Bergquist home farm in Steelesville until moving to Litchfield in 1955.
Clarence farmed while living in the Steelesville area and also worked for the C.J. Peterson Seed Co. of Dassel. In 1962 he began working for Land 'O Lakes (First District) in Litchfield and retired from there in 1972.
While living in Litchfield, Clarence was a member of First Lutheran Church and when he lived in the Dassel area he was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
Clarence lived Litchfield until he became a resident of the Dassel Lakeside Community Home where he lived for the past 21 years.
Clarence is survived by his daughter, Marcia (and Bill) Guthrie of Coon Rapids; a grandson, Alan Guthrie (and Sofia) of St. Paul; a granddaughter, Amy Guthrie and by a sister Lillian (and Arnold) Berg of Atwater, Minnesota.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; wife Martha in 1983; and a grandson, David, in 1976.
