OBITUARY - Martha Bergquist

Martha Marie Clara Bergquist, age 67, a former resident of Litchfield and Dassel, died at the Dassel Lakeside Community Home, on October 15, 1985. Martha was born in Litchfield on January 23, 1918, to Herman and Anna (Groskreutz) Prieve. As a young girl she lived with her family in the Litchfield area, later moving to Washburn County, Wisconsin, where they lived for a few years before returning to Litchfield.

She was married to Clarence Bergquist on June 20, 1943, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran church in Litchfield.

Following their marriage, they lived near Dassel until 1955, at which time they moved to Litchfield. For the past 13 years she had been a resident of the Dassel Lakeside Home.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Litchfield and was also a member of the Steelesville Birthday Club. Surviving are her husband, Clarence Bergquist; a daughter, Marcia (Mrs. William Guthrie) of Coon Rapids; two grandchildren, and a brother, Oliver Prieve, of Litchfield.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a grandson, David; sisters, Rosella Moyer and Alvina Dornsbach, and brothers, Ruben, George, Elmer and Benjamin Prieve.

The funeral was held from Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel on October 18. Officiating was Rev. Gregory Hall, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Soloist, Mrs. Ted Bergquist, sang “How Great Thou Art.” Congregational hymn was “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Organist was Mrs. Lail Bergquist.

Pallbearers were Alan Guthrie, Gar, Samuel and David Prieve, Charles Berg, and Kenneth Bergquist. Interment was in the Steelesville Cemetery in Dassel.
