Services Held for Walter Bergquist
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday of last week, September 21, at 1:30 from Holm Funeral Home and 2 p.m. from the First Lutheran Church, for Walter E. Bergquist, who passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Sept. 18, 1955, at his home in Steelesville.
Rev. J. Henry Bergren of Litchfield officiated at the services. Mrs. Verner Anderson sang a vocal solo, “Some Day We’ll Understand,” at the funeral home. At the church Mrs. Ted Bergquist sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and C. W. Johnson sang a Swedish song, “Tryggare Kan Ingen Vara.”
Pallbearers were six nephews, Arvid, Alrick, Hilmer, Ted, Willard and Kenneth Bergquist. Interment was in the Steelesville Cemetery.
Walter E. Bergquist was born April 25, 1879 in Collinwood Township and lived there all his life with the exception of a few years when he worked at Orr, North Dakota and Cottonwood and Howard Lake, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, Dassel, where he was a member all his life.
In December 1911 he was united in marriage to Anna Aurora Nordstrom of Stockholm, Sweden. Mrs. Bergquist passed away seven and a half years ago on March 16, 1948. Mr. Bergquist passed away at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 24 days. His parents, Gustaf and Anna (Peterson) Bergquist, also five brothers and two sisters had preceded him in death.
He is survived by one brother, Frans, who lived with him on their farm south of Dassel; one son, Clarence of Dassel, and one daughter, Mrs. Arnold Berg (Lillian) of Atwater; also three grandchildren, Marcia Bergquist of Dassel and Linda and Charles Berg of Atwater; besides a large number of other relatives and a host of friends. Relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the funeral were from Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Annandale, Atwater, and Litchfield.
